Experimenting with Batik with Textile Traders at Big Cat Textiles

Two days to learn, experiment and play with a wide variety of batik techniques with Diane and Jim Gaffney of Textile Traders.

This is an introductory workshop with an emphasis on the tools and techniques used in Java. We aim to provide an intriguing and challenging experience which is equally enjoyable and valuable to those who have never done any batik before as to those with experience.

You will have a chance to have a good look at batiks from Indonesia and China and understand their construction, and then try some of the techniques for yourself. We will use a variety of tools including cantings (wax pens) and caps (copper stamps) as well as brushes, sponges and everyday kitchen implements.
