This class covers all the basics of animal mask-making, focusing specifically on birds, as they come in a wide variety of colours, shapes and sizes. More than just a face cover, these masks will cover the head completely and are sculptures in their own right.

Creating the mask requires a combined approach of thorough planning and intuitive feltmaking. During the workshop you will learn how to create a resist, build up the bird’s characteristic features, achieve facial symmetry, experiment with different types of plumage, and learn how to felt all the 3-dimensional parts together.

PLEASE NOTE: You will be required to make a small felt sample before the workshop – instructions will be provided.

This class is suitable for experienced feltmakers. Experience in making 3-dimensional felt around a resist is required.
