This hand-stitching class takes ‘pure essence’ as a starting point to explore fabrics and stitch and develop personal responses. You will:

  • Respond to a primary source.
  • Recognise the process of developing concept, imagery and qualities.
  • Work with the inherent qualities of cloth.
  • Use hand stitch as a functional element.
  • Rediscover techniques in a new context.
  • Understand your own individual visual language.

This class is suitable for all, but hand-sewing skills are essential.

About the tutor

Amanda’s passion for embroidery was awakened at the age of 14. She is obsessed with the purity of thread and cloth, and likes the simplicity of a neutral palette as it allows the qualities of cloth to be explored. Amanda has been an exhibiting textile artist for over 30 years. She has a wealth of teaching experience, and enjoys sharing her practice with others and is particularly interested in the way we each respond to similar elements with our own visual language.
