This masterclass explores the wonderful art of Passementerie: making woven and embroidered trimmings and fringes, using ribbons, braids, scallops and tassels.

Starting off with some basic motifs and designs of Passementerie (woven decorative trimmings), you will explore different construction methods, including simple weaving techniques alongside braiding, knotting and macramé to construct a variety of ribbon and trimming samples.

You will go on to create a selection of individual designs based around your personal style and ideas, which may include mixed media or found items. These samples may be exciting as textile artworks in their own right, used as embellishments for fashion or interior items, or even scaled up into larger pieces.

This class is suitable for beginners and more-experienced makers alike.
