‘One of a kind – felt jewellery with mixed media elements’

In this class you will explore the different techniques of manipulating pre-felt pieces during the felting process to achieve an extraordinary surface design for jewellery.

You will experiment with combining interesting materials and taming fractious fibres. You will cut, sew, layer, staple and bulge to play with pre-felts, structures and textures, forms and designs.

During the process, you will discuss the results and experiences as a group, and you will reflect on which forms, surfaces, and mixed media components you wish to develop into your own jewellery pieces.

This is the second of Ricarda’s two Big Cat masterclasses this week. You can find her first class, Fascinating Felt Surfaces, here. Each is a stand-alone class but you are more than welcome to make a week of it and attend both.

This class is aimed at the more-experienced felt-maker.

About the tutor

Ricarda Aßmann is an experienced textile artist with many years of exhibiting experience. She is also a seasoned tutor having taught internationally, as well as being a published author: her first book was FilzFrauen, and her next is PassionFilz. Ricarda spends her time working on small studies for her classes, or creating objects and sculptural wall hangings. She is particularly thrilled by transferring her huge surface designs into more small-scale projects, especially one-of-a-kind felt jewellery.
