In this class, you will make a hand-stitched bag from vegetable-tanned cow hide. You will learn how to colour and then shape the leather and Anna will offer guidance on how to form your bag according to your own design ideas.

You can decorate your bag with skins, metal, or fabric, according to taste. Anna will bring a selection of fish-skins with her from Iceland, which you can use. You can of course bring along your own items or materials to use as embellishments.

Tools for working with leather will be provided.

The leather and dyes will be included in the workshop fee. Fish-skins will be charged separately.

This class is suitable for all, but hand-sewing skills are essential.

This is the first of Anna Gunnarsdottir’s two Big Cat masterclasses. You can find details of her second class, Leather Jewellery with Fishskin, which takes place on the days following this class, here. The two classes are designed to offer complementary routes of exploration, but also to stand alone for anyone unable to attend both.
