In this one-day workshop, you will experiment with:
- dyeing a mixture of sample yarns, pre-felts, silk and wool fabrics and fibres using acid dyes
- over-dyeing and simple clamping
- mixing pigments in a variety of ways to create a larger and more personal palette of colours.
At the end of the day, you will have a range of sample pieces which you can incorporate into other work or keep as a record in a sketchbook to develop further in future.
The price of the class includes a pack of sampler size fabrics and fibres and all dyes.
This class is suitable for all abilities; no prior experience of dyeing is required.
About the tutor
Alison Mountain is a multimedia artist and teacher who, together with Jeanette Sendler, owns and runs Big Cat Textiles. Primarily a painter, she works extensively with colour, and has been experimenting with dyes on yarns and fabric for a number of years. She focuses on the creative process of each participant, with a view to encouraging and enabling them to develop the skills learned in the workshops into ongoing personal work.
