Nuno Pine Needles is one of the variations of the ‘pine needles’ wet felting technique which has become the signature technique of Japanese felt artist Leiko Uchiyama. It was originally inspired by pine needles spread on the surface of the snow in her home town of Sapporo.

In this Masterclass she is going to share, for the first time, the way she makes her own exquisite pieces. This technique requires patience, which will be well rewarded by the stunning results achieved. Among other things you will learn just how small an amount of fibre you need, and how, when laid out with care and precision, the fabric can be manipulated in many spectacular ways.

You will begin by making a sample piece to learn and establish the technique and by thinking about potential designs for your project before embarking on your final large-scale wrap.

Leiko will also bring her own hand dyed materials with her which will be available for sale at the class.

Some experience of basic wet felting is required for this class.
